| Visitors to the Chelsea Flower Show took a poignant trip back in time courtesy of a garden made by Leeds City Council and inspired by heroism on the battlefields of Europe. The entry, which picked up a Silver Gilt award, was inspired by the gardens at Talbot House, at Poperinghe, near Ypres, in Belgium, which was founded by Tubby Clayton and was the beginning of Toc H. Soldiers of all ranks found a haven of rest and peace after the horrors of the trenches during the First World War at Talbot House. The garden was sponsored by Toc H, the Royal British Legion and a Leeds businessman Peter Gilman's GMI Property. The garden commenorates the 90th anniversary of the end of the First World War and will eventually be displayed at Roundhay Park in Leeds. | ![]() ![]() ![]() |
